Maa has come to his art practice by way of his practices as translator, scholar, and poet. He takes this practice as an unconventional way to explore the links, corporeal and not, between orality and writing. Ever aware that context produces meaning, he undertakes performances that dramatize the history and process of a context for a particular act of writing in order to compel the spectator to consider context as a fundamental meaning-bearing component of language. Inspired by the lineage of performance art that has grown out of action painting, he explores how similar experiments with the process of writing can contribute to performance art. He lives and works in LA.
